EPIC JAM V Featuring Nat Wilson with Host Jeremy Quiroga

Thu, Oct 10, 2013 at 8pm

This event has passed.

Deaf Spotlight is thrilled to announce Epic Jam V on October 10, 2013  featuring charismatic and passionate Nat Wilson!  He is sure to deliver a magnificent performance in ASL.

The goal of Deaf Spotlight’s Epic Jam is to revitalize the Deaf cultural gathering, where people can share poems and tell stories in American Sign Language (ASL). This is part of a long-time tradition that has passed down from Deaf Clubs and Deaf schools through several generations. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to see, support and develop a larger pool of performers and poets who celebrate ASL.

Hosting the evening with his dazzling energy inviting audience participation is Jeremy Quiroga, one of the co-founders of the 1997 Seattle-based Deaf Poets Society, who is leading Epic Jam into a new direction with his ability to execute successful poetry and performance events. The audience will be encouraged to interact and, in the process, develop an appreciation for why ASL literature is so deeply valued in the Deaf community.

Nat Wilson is a storyteller, comedian, and host for festivals and events celebrating ASL and Deaf culture.  He works as a part-time ASL instructor and ASL theatre instructor in the Deaf Studies program at Seattle Central Community College.  He was a featured actor for the National Theatre of the Deaf (NTD) and The Little Theatre of the Deaf, touring nationally and internationally for twelve years. On the road, he provided many workshops, and also served as the Director of the NTD's Deaf Audience Outreach Program. He worked as an ASL consultant for the Seattle Children’s' Theatre and its Deaf Youth Drama Program, and served as the volunteer stage manager for the annual Deaf Kids Drama Festival. He starred in the play Same Time, Next Year performed at the Broadway Performance Hall, and performed multiple characters in the touring production of The Last Con, a play performed entirely in gestural mime.

Consider Epic Jam your “open stage” opportunity to share your poems and stories! Come and join us!
