Trumpet player Ray Larsen curates and hosts four shows — one every other month — featuring some of his newest bands and projects alongside other hand picked groups from around the Seattle scene. The first edition will take place on Thursday January 25, subtitled: 'Ray Larsen's Birthday Spectacular".

Tonight, Ray Larsen hosts a kind of musical variety show in celebration of his birthday, featuring sets by two of his favorite songwriters and a batch of new music for effected trumpet, guitar (Andy Coe), bass (Chris Symer) and drums (Evan Woodle).

Ray Larsen is a trumpeter, composer, improviser, producer, bandleader and educator working in jazz, improvised, folk, rock and contemporary chamber settings.  He has released seven albums of his work, featuring an affinity for musical storytelling through a wide range of styles.

Her unique melodic sensibility is reminiscent of Joni Mitchell and a trans-Atlantic modality. Her sound is influenced by Irish and Americana folk music, along with alternative rock such as The Innocence Mission and Gillian Welch. Her music was described by Craig Shelburne of The Bluegrass Situation as being "understated and beautiful".
